1.20801 CALCULUS I

Pre-calculus revision. Limits and continuity: informal concepts, theorems, examples and intermediate value theorem. Derivatives: definition, rate of change, tangents. Derivatives of polynomial, trig., and inverse trig. Functions, chain rule, implicit differentiation, higher derivatives. Applications of differentiation to geometry, graph sketching and extrema. Derivative tests. Integration, antiderivatives, integration by substitution, differentials, definite integrals, change of variables, fundamental theory of calculus. Application of definite integrals to solids, and curves. Review and extension of limits, the calculus of standard mathematical functions and their inverses. Derivatives and integrals of these functions, including logarithmic and exponential functions, hyperbolic trig functions, and trig inverse functions.

Five lectures/tutorials per week.

Assessment:

2 tests (25%), 3 or 4 assignments (15%) and final exam (60%).
