2.14503 PRINCIPLES & PRACTICE OF NURSING ADMINISTRATION
The course aims to prepare students with management and leadership capabilities to administer nursing service organisations effectively and efficiently. The topics investigated include the trends in the delivery of health care and services with special reference to PNG situation. It also includes management concepts and theories applicable to nursing settings. Students taking this course are required to explore the organizational structure and functions of the National Department of Health, Provincial Divisions of Health, health policies and priority programs, the various committee structures, non-government organisations, philosophy and objectives of hospitals and nursing services, hospital policies and procedures for patient care and services. The roles and responsibilities of nurse managers and supervisors, planning and commission of buildings, administrative and professional accountability for patient care, management of resources including budgeting and nursing management information system are also discussed.
