2.14508 LEGAL & ETHICAL ISSUES IN NURSING

The course examines the general legal concepts and the sources of law, the court systems, laws and regulations affecting nursing practice. It also explores accountability for nursing practice, documentation or report keeping responsibilities including access to records, issues on informed consent and common charting errors and accountability for professional practice. The course also covers the roles and responsibilities of the Nursing Council and Medical Board, licensure and nursing practice Acts, Self- regulation and professional associations, code of ethics, and professional conduct, standards of practice, certification and collective bargaining. In addition, ethical issues and principles including patients rights and responsibilities and nurses’ rights and responsibilities are examined.
