2.24902 BIOCHEMISTRY (Year long)
The aim of this course is to provide students with an understanding of biochemistry and of biochemical concepts as a base for later work in other subjects within the pharmaceutical sciences. Students are expected to develop an understanding of the basic biochemistry of body constituent, metabolism, regulatory mechanisms and molecular biology; understanding of the significant biochemical pathways. Practical classes are designed to provide experience through experiments and discussion groups to illustrate and extend principles discussed in the lecture course.
Contact hours: 6 hours per week (2 Lectures, 1 tutorial and 3 hour practical).
Assessment: Tests, assignments and practical (60%), final exam (40%).
