2.24904 PHARMACEUTICAL PRACTICE

This course aims to introduce students to the basic principles of the practice of pharmacy in PNG. On completion, the student should be able to: understand the basic principles of dispensing practice; and have an understanding of the importance of being a member of the health care team. Topics include: history of pharmacy; personal attitudes and organisation; prescription order writing; sections and sub-section of the prescription order; Latin terms, pharmaceutical terminology and common abbreviations applied in prescription order writing; simulation & identification of dosage forms and limitations; guidelines and proper processing of prescriptions and good dispensing practice; and paediatric, neonatal and geriatric dispensing.

Contact hours: 6 hours per week.

Assessment: Tests, assignments (60%), final exam (40%).
