2.29805 COMMUNITY & ORAL HEALTH I

This course commences with a general look at the health statistics of residents of PNG. It then considers the nature and importance of a balanced nutrition for good health, including oral health. The importance of safety consciousness at work is dealt with. Students will discuss the types of communication required to be a successful dental professional, and patient behaviours and how they impact on oral health. The remainder of the course will place a strong emphasis on all aspects of Dental Public Health. This includes the importance of health promotion, and provides students with the opportunity to gain practical experience in preparing Dental Health Education talks for school children.
Finally, students will be introduced to Oral Health Surveying procedures.

Course hours: Three hours per week.

Assessment: Continuous 60%, Final exam 40%
