2.29806 APPLIED CLINICAL DENTAL PRACTICE - I

This course has students initially learning to carry out restorations on extracted and plastic teeth on a Manikin in a Dental Laboratory. It progressively moves to provide an introduction to patient assessment and treatment planning procedures in clinical practice, gives the student experience in applying the principles of clinical preventive dentistry and periodontics, and introduces minor oral surgery procedures. These include pain control procedures, in particular local analgesia (local infiltration and mandibular block techniques), and methods to extract teeth. Management of medical emergences in the dental clinic is also covered.

Course hours: Semester 1 and 2, 15 hours per week

Assessment: Continuous 60%, Final exam 40%
