2.39802 COMMUNITY ORAL HEALTH II

This course gives the students basic understanding of the manner in which oral health surveys are carried out and also the manner in which to act quickly and scientifically in situations in the clinic and the community to give First-Aid. The St. Johns Ambulance Brigade, Port Moresby, conducts a program on Basic First Aid such as resuscitation, etc., which the students attend. The students also go into the community to conduct a project which has to be submitted together with a Clinical Album to complete the course. Also in this course, the concept of primary health care is taught and the importance of the delivery of oral health care and the importance of the knowledge of behavioural sciences and communication in the delivery of effective health care to the community. At the end of the course the students are expected to design an Oral Health poster suitable for a particular community.

Contact hours: 2 hours per week x 26 weeks, 3 hours of project work per week x 26 weeks

Assessment: Continuous and final assessment, tests, assignments and project work (60%), final exam (40%).
