2.44901 PHYSICAL PHARMACY

The aim of the course is to introduce students to physical pharmaceutics concepts relevant to drug formulation and manufacture. On completion, the student should be able to: understand the scientific principles underpinning selected formulation; explain the formulation of emulsions, suspensions, colloids and related systems; and understand the concepts of pH, isotonicity, pka, in pharmaceutical formulation.

Contact hours: 6 hours per week (2 Lectures, 1 Tutorial, 3 hour practical).

Assessment: Tests, assignment, and practical works (60%) exams (40%).

Prerequisite: 2.24901; 2.34901.
