2.49801 DENTAL & HEALTH SCIENCES III
This course continues throughout the year, and requires the student initially to increase their depth of knowledge in the basic and applied medical and dental sciences which were introduced in years two and three. The subjects to be covered in Semester 1 include Advanced Oral Anatomy, Histology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Oral Pathology and Microbiology. Biomaterials Science and Technology and Fixed and Removable Prosthetic Dentistry. In Semester 2, the student is introduced to General and Oral Medicine, Orthodontics (emphasis on simple Removable appliances). Endodontics, and Extra-Oral Radiography, diseases, and the impact of many Systemic Diseases on Dental Treatment.
Contact hours: Eight hours per week.
Assessment: Continuous assessment 60%, final exam 40%.
