2.49803 APPLIED CLINICAL DENTAL PRACTICE III
This course provides the laboratory and clinical practice necessary for carrying out Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics, and Endodontics. It also covers the principles and practice of advanced Diagnostic Techniques and of Primary Care in Dentistry. A component is the technique practice of Extra-Oral Radiography, using practice skulls. The student is expected to learn to be able to prepare full and part dentures, and prepare cast metal Crowns and Bridges on technique models by the end of Semester 1. As well, he or she should be able to carry out pulp and root canal therapy satisfactorily on technique teeth.
These technique skills will be applied to the diagnosis and management of dental problems in patients during Semester 2. By the end of the year, students will be expected to demonstrate a high level of competence in their ability to diagnose the more complex dental problems in patients of the PMGH Dental Clinic, and to carry out most of the treatment required by them. By the end of the year, training in the more complex Oral Surgical Techniques will be provided, and the students given the opportunity to practice these on selected patients.
Course hours: Fifteen hours per week
Assessment: Continuous assessment 60%, final exam 40%.
