2.54904 PHARMACY PROJECT

The aim of this project is to enable students to study in depth a topic of relevance to pharmacy. The project may be library, laboratory, hospital or community practice based. Topics may be chosen from a list provided, or may be initiated by students in negotiation with supervisors. Students are expected to develop understanding of scientific methodology; abilities in the areas of planning and refining a research question in the topic selected; skills in using relevant research tools in assessing and processing information; abilities in evaluation and interpretation of information gathered and reporting results in a scientific, clear and coherent manner; and an appreciation of the need for critical review of scientific publications. Selected lectures on review and assessment of current literature on a specific topic; definition of problems to be solved; information retrieval, report writing, scientific methodology and example presentations. The project will be carried out by the student under supervision.

Contact: 6 hours per week: supervised project

Assessment: Written report to be submitted by end of the second semester. The project will be marked by the supervisor and methods of assessment will include planning and methodology (25%), interpretation of information (20%), attitude and application (15%), format (15%), to be assessed by a panel of academic staff: oral presentation (25%).

Prerequisite: Completion of Year 4.
