Gender in management is emerging as an important sub-discipline in mainstream management. The aim of this course is to introduce to students the emerging issues on gender in management founded on the principles of management. This course provides an overview of some of the issues underpinning the influence of gender in management with considerations given to topics on the impact of gender on management; classical theories of management and their considerations on gender in management, and how management is tied together with the influence of 'feminine-in-management' issues. This course also draws on cross-cultural cases, and specially cases in PNG and the region to appreciate the emerging influence of women in management in these regions. On completion, students should be able to understand the emerging issues in gender and management; gain basic analytical skills to de-construct the classical theories of management and their failures in addressing gender in management; and appreciate the role and contribution women can make to management.
