3.41201 INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS & REMUNERATION THEORY
The course focuses on management-labour relations and an analysis of the theory and practice of remuneration. It gives a short introduction to the labour movement and then discusses collective bargaining and the types of agreements resulting from it; on wages, fringe benefits, profit-sharing plans and employment policies. Students emerge from the course with an understanding of theories/concepts governing the determination and role of remuneration and its benefits to the organisation, and the issue of strikes causes, tactics employed, and the cost-benefits involved.
