Domain 2: INDIVIDUAL MEDICINE (Prevention, Diagnosis & Management of Disease)

Year 2: Basic and clinical science concepts are intrinsic to the Patient and Community problems. Assessment will be primarily by written instruments (papers). The first trimester P&C problems serve as an introduction to problems affecting children and adults, to the organ systems and to a number of important disease processes. The concepts of both basic and clinical sciences, will be revisited and extended over the next 4 years, allowing you to learn in a progressive fashion. In Block 2, problems affecting the gastrointestinal and urinary tracts will be considered; in Block 3, the problems relate to the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. The nervous system, the mind, special sense, the musculoskeletal system, blood and lymphatics, endocrine system and reproduction are studied in year 3. In year, 4, the problems relate to the clinical attachments in Medicine and Dermatology, Surgery and Ophthalmology; Child Health and Ear, Nose and Throat, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Year 5 includes problems relating to Psychiatry, Anaesthesia, Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. In year 4, problems relate to the clinical attachments in Medicine and Dermatology; Surgery and Ophthalmology; Child health and ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Year 5 includes problems relating to Psychiatry, Anaesthesia, Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The sequence of problems through the four years enables students to revisit and extend our learning of both basic and clinical science concepts in a progressive fashion.
