A Review of the Beche-de-mer Fishery and its Management in PNG

Funding Organisation: PNG National Fisheries Authority (NFA)

Funds Awarded: 30,000 Kina

Duration: October – November 2004

Through a process of site visits, interviews and questionnaire implementation, MIRC obtained first-hand information on licensing arrangements for the beche-de-mer fishery in PNG, improvements in the processing sector, and collected views and opinions on current management of the beche-de-mer fishery in PNG. Alongside this fieldwork, MIRC collated and analysed all other available information on the beche-de-mer fishery in PNG, including past reviews and up to date fishery statistics. Based on all of this information, MIRC made recommendations to the NFA on appropriate components of the National Management Plan.
