Building for Coral Reef Monitoring and Research
Funding Organisation: US Consulate through the Pacific Islands Fund
Funds Awarded: 32,000 US Dollars (approximately 96,000 Kina)
Duration: September 2004 – August 2005
This grant has enabled MIRC to develop its capacity to facilitate and support coral reef research and training programmes. This includes revitalisation of its research vessel Scomber, the provision of SCUBA equipment and water quality kits, and the upgrade of teaching equipment for its conference centre. MIRC expects to become a focal point for coral reef training and research in Papua New Guinea, catering for both national and international needs.
