Jeff
Kinch, BA (Hons)
Coastal Fisheries Advisor
Jeff was employed by MIRC in August 2004 on a 2 year contract, and was primarily concerned with the management of MIRC's research on the deepwater snapper fishery in PNG. Jeff also conducted research into the socio-economic importance of turtle nesting beaches in PNG. All of this while completing his PhD on resource dynamics, livelihoods, and social change in island Melanesia. Jeff has widespread experience throughout the Pacific region in coastal and marine resource management, including periods in Australia, Fiji, the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea. Research and consultancy interests centre on community development and artisanal fisheries, specific interests including the aquarium trade and beche-de-mer. Although Jeff is now pursuing other interests, he still provides invaluable advice to MIRC in its research activities.
