Mark Baine, BSc, MSc, PhD, FRGS, CBiol MIBiol

Associate Professor and Director MIRC

Mark joined MIRC in October 2003 and is leading the effort to revitalise MIRC through the development and implementation of a research and consultancy programme, the development and management of an educational programme, and the overseeing of MIRC facilities upgrades. Mark has over 15 years of experience in the marine sciences working in a wide variety of fields and countries. This has ranged from the development of fisheries and coastal management plans in the Orkney Islands, Scotland to community initiatives for the establishment and management of marine protected areas in the San Andres Archipelago, Colombia. Mark's general research interests relate to inshore marine resource management including but not limited to integrated coastal zone management, coastal fisheries and resource use planning, marine biodiversity and habitat studies and monitoring, habitat enhancement, socio-economics of coastal communities and conflict resolution in the marine estate. Prior to joining MIRC, Mark also had 10 years of UK teaching experience on BSc and MSc courses, including MSc and PhD research project supervision.
