RESEARCH at MIRC

Overall, MIRC strives to develop its own capabilities and support research in a variety of fields, with the aim of realising an appropriate balance of local, national and international research links and programmes. General research areas that MIRC has identified as being able to develop, contribute to, and/or support include:

•  Marine and coastal management plans, policy and legislation;
•  Conflict management and resolution in coastal and marine estates;
•  Environmental assessment and waste management;
•  Fisheries management and restocking;
•  Habitat mapping and remote sensing;
•  Mariculture and hatchery technology;
•  Marine and coastal ecosystems, their structure and function;
•  Marine biodiversity and biotechnology; and
•  Renewable energies (both marine and island based).
