This course deals with the formulation and characteristics of the modern contractual employment relationship between employers and individual employees and/or groups of employees represented by trade unions. It considers the distinction between employees and other persons who carry out work, the formation of contract of employments, either individual employment contracts or collective employment contract, including the processes that the parties undergo to reach agreement. It also considers likelihood of industrial disputes and conflicts that the parties in the employment relationship face during negotiation and the consequences of breach of the terms of these contracts of employment by both parties, i.e., the employer(s) and the employee(s) during implementation and the available remedies for these breaches provided by various labour laws applicable to private and public sector employees including statutory authorities.
