Condolence Message

The Chancellor, Pro Chancellor, University Council, Vice-Chancellor, academic and nonacademic staff, and students are deeply saddened by the untimely, tragic passing of the Late Hon. Sam Basil, MP, Deputy Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea. We extend our sincere, heartfelt condolences to his wife, his children, and his immediate family, and the people of Bulolo/Wau in this time of grieving. The Late Sam Basil has been a long-serving Member of Parliament since his election to Parliament in 2007. The University pays tribute to his many positive contributions to the development of our nation during his roles as Minister for several departments, and as Deputy Prime Minister at his time of passing. His legacy as a vibrant young leader to Papua New Guinea’s development will long be remembered by every citizen in our nation.
